The Moon's brightness as viewed through a telescope can be quite bright — overpoweringly so, in fact, which can make it uncomfortable to view. That's where a Moon filter comes in. The Meade Series 4000 Moon Filter is a neutral density filter (ND96) that transmits just 13% of the incoming light to your eye. That's still plenty of light to reveal all of the incredible craters, mountains, rays, and other features on the lunar surface in rich detail, but without the blinding, eye-squinting glare. You'll enjoy a better resolved, tonally balanced, and more comfortable view.
The Meade Series 4000 Moon Filter transmits light uniformly across the entire visual spectrum, meaning there won't be any annoying color shifts like some inexpensive Moon filters produce. The glass filter is encased in an aluminum cell threaded for 1.25" eyepieces, including Meade Series 4000 and 5000 eyepieces, and 1.25" diagonals. This filter also works well for viewing double stars, when trying to split close doubles in which one of the pair significantly exceeds the other in brightness.
This Moon filter is likely to become your most often used accessory, no matter what size telescope you have. But it's especially effective for larger apertures, which amplify the Moon's glare to undesirable levels.
